The Poochinos: Lost Episode WIP!

One of 2A!'s most popular pieces is The Poochinos animated short. We're constantly getting requests and inquiries about more episodes. While the client sadly had to put the project on hold for economic reasons, we do have some never before seen Poochinos work that we hope can satisfy fans!

First up is the above video. Very much a "work in progress," the video is made up of a little bit animatic and a little bit rough animation. It would have been the opening segment of episode two, starring Tony, Vinny and Dom.

Next, we have the final background paints for the "under the bridge" establishing shot (below). The rough layout was done by Jimmy Nock, with final paints by Greg Kleid.


Below are Greg’s awesome renderings of both Vinny and Dom’s cars. I especially love the blood splatter on Vinny’s back window… just great!




Finally, here are two more rough pencil layouts by Jimmy Nock.




Hopefully we’ll get to revisit this episode at some point in the future. I can’t guarantee it will happen, but if it does the final product will be tight!

Background Design: The Poochinos' Pool Hall

Here’s a look at a background 2A! created for The Poochinos animated short… which also happens to be my favorite from this production. It’s one angle of the “pool hall” interior, which is used in the scene where Dominick has to pop a well-known television mobster.

First up, is the rough sketch that Joe drew while creating the Flash animatic.



Next up, we handed off Joe’s rough to Jimmy Nock who did a tighter pencil layout in Sketchbook Pro.



Last but not least, here is the final background painted in Photoshop by Jimmy Nock and Greg Kleid.

Graphic Novel: The Poochinos Pages 1 to 4

Last week I posted some of the working pages from our first Poochinos Graphic novel. Those pages focused on Vinny and Dom’s storyline, so I thought it would be fitting to show a bit of Bully and Tony’s story this week. Below are pages one through four of the comic, which feature Bully “The Boss” Poochino and his right hand mutt, Tony "The Rott" DeBoneo, on route to finish up some last minute business.

Graphic Novel: The Poochinos WIP!

Along with our work on The Poochinos animated short and Lost Episode, 2A! was also involved in developing an original comic book starring the gangster dogs! The comic was supposed to premier online then be printed and available for purchase through the Dog Mafia website, however as we’ve mentioned before, the client sadly put the project on hold for economic reasons. In any case, we are very proud of our work on the comic book and thought it’d be cool to share some of the pages with you.

The first issue was titled “Timeline” and revolved around the gang having only a short window of opportunity to tie up some loose ends (a.k.a. whack some mutts) before they started a moratorium on killing. Below are three pages of the Vinny and Dominick storyline, which was interspliced between Bully and Tony’s scenes. Check them out and let us know what you think...

Background Designs: Poochinos' City Street

Here’s a look at one of the backgrounds we designed for what we’re now calling The Lost Poochinos Episode! I stumbled across it the other day while searching through the 2A! archives and thought it would be cool to post. It’s one of my favorite backgrounds from the Dog Mafia productions.

First off, we have the rough layout for the “city street” establishing shot. You can see the Barkland Bridge in the distance, where the lost episode starts off. This rough was drawn by Joe during the animatic stage..



Next up, is the tight pencil clean-up done by our good pal Jimmy Nock. I’m pretty sure he knocked this out in Sketchbook Pro (pun intended). Great stuff!



Finally, here’s the Photoshop painting by our other good pal Greg Kleid. He was really able to capture the dark and gritty look that I was hoping for with this shot.
