I'm sure you're all as happy to see winter go as I am, and there are so many things to look forward to in spring. So, of course, I was inspired to create a drawing about the fact that the first day of spring is tomorrow!
Sitting on fresh green grass, admiring the pretty yellow forsythia bushes and feeing the hungry chickadees and sparrows are the pastimes I felt worked for this year's piece. I wanted to play around with SketchBook Pro's coloring tools, so once I sketched out the line work I went straight into coloring. It was a fun challenge, and I look forward to practicing in this program more.
Just looking at this makes me wish it was tomorrow already, so I could jump on my bike and enjoy the weather! What things are you looking forward to most this spring?

Any sort of creative endeavor is always in a state of improvement – as the more you practice the better you get. I made this drawing in that spirit, as it’s a piece that will be used in the redesign of my candy blog, The Candy Enthusiast.
Just like with my art, I hope the more I write and take photos, the better I become. Once the candy blog is redesigned, it will reflect the fact that I’ve been at it for almost two years now… and how else to spiff it up but with a cute self-portrait? I'd like to think my art will become a bigger part of my candy blog's identity, and I can't think of anything sweeter than a hobby that allows me to flex all of my creative muscles. Can you believe it’s December already? With winter and the holiday season fast approaching, that also means it's time for another seasonal wallpaper featuring my chibi characters!
The inspiration for this winter's wallpaper was how pretty Christmas lights are, and how much fun it is to just bask in their glowing colors. I wanted a composition that really featured the Christmas tree and the lights, while also keeping my characters as a focal point. After a few sketches, I decided I liked the one above the best.
I had a really fun time playing around with the colors for the final piece. While the lights and tree were easy to do, getting the right hues for the snow and shadows were a bit of a challenge. I soon discovered the trick was adding a warm, pink transparency layer that gives the lights a nice glow.
I'm really happy with how this wallpaper turned out. I think it conveys the peaceful and festive feeling I was shooting for. :) Copyright © Sarah Gencarelli
I can hardly believe it's the middle of October already! I love this time of year, especially now since this is when the leaves are usually at their peak color, apples and pumpkins are ripe for picking, cider is just waiting to be consumed, and it's chilly enough to break out my giant collection of scarves.
These are two wallpapers I drew to celebrate this wonderful season. In the same style of the "Looking Forward To Fall" wallpaper I made last month, the caricatures of myself and my boyfriend partake in some of our favorite fall activities. There's trails to hike, leaves waiting to be admired and seasonal foods to be eaten.
I'm quite proud of how the characters and the colors in these came out. I really like how I made the extremely stylized chibi-pumpkin-head characters expressive and work from a few different angles (the drinking pose I'm especially fond of). I am also very happy with how the night time fall colors worked out, as it feels dark and autumn-ish while giving a mood of Halloween.Copyright © Sarah Gencarelli
My favorite time of year is just around the corner! Following in the footsteps of my summer-themed desktop, I was all too eager to create my fall-themed desktop. There are so many fun things to enjoy: fall leaves, cooler temperatures, and apple cider to name a few. I decided this year my theme would be a pumpkin patch, complete with dried cornstalks and a spooky twilight to match.
Here's the initial sketch I made for the piece...
And here’s the final. I took it into Flash for ink and color, and then applied a texture over it to give it that spooky, gritty look.

As of last year, I've started using those strange, little pumpkin-headed-self-portraits of mine in desktop artwork. It all began with a fall themed piece that was a gift to my boyfriend for his computer. Since then it has become a habit creating a new desktop for each season. They have a silly, whimsical quality to them that I like very much. The desktop here is for this summer, when it's best to partake in one of my favorite pastimes... climbing trees!

An oldie but goodie! Originally sketched last year when I landed tickets to see one of my rock 'n roll idols, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I have a birthday coming up...a blog birthday actually. When I'm not drawing, designing and animating at 2A!, I spend a lot of my free time eating, writing and photographing candy for my candy blog: The Candy Enthusiast.
I'm pretty obsessed with keeping up with the latest and greatest in the confectionery world, as anyone in the studio can attest to. The one year mark is the first of July, and that's a full 260 candy articles (one for each weekday). Yikes, that's a lot of sugar!Copyright © Sarah Gencarelli
I have a love of cowboys, as anyone in the studio can attest to -- especially since I have a pair of boots and spurs that I love to wear to work. I often draw odd, little self-portraits of me doing things I daydream about, and this sketch is a good example. How cool would it be to hide behind rocks about to bust some evil bank robbers?
